Terms

Plain terms for an open-source app.

Cubby is free software provided in good faith, without a promise that clipboard history can never fail.

Last updated July 16, 2026

1. The software and its license

Cubby Clipboard (“Cubby”) is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3.0. Your rights to use, study, modify, and distribute the software come from that license. If these terms conflict with the GPL-3.0, the GPL-3.0 controls for the software.

2. Early-release software

Cubby is under active development. Features, data formats, shortcuts, compatibility, and packaging may change. You are responsible for deciding whether an early build is suitable for your device and workflow.

3. Your responsibility

Clipboard history can contain sensitive or regulated information. You are responsible for the content you copy, the security of your Windows account and device, the applications you exclude from capture, and compliance with policies or laws that apply to your work.

Do not rely on Cubby as the only copy of important information. Clipboard capture can be interrupted by Windows, source applications, remote-session software, permissions, or unsupported clipboard formats.

4. Privacy

Cubby is designed to store clipboard history locally, with clipboard payloads encrypted at rest using a key protected for the current Windows user. Please read the Privacy Policy for the current data-handling and security model.

5. No warranty

Cubby is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. This includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

There is no guarantee that Cubby will capture every clipboard item, preserve every format, paste into every application, remain compatible with every Windows update, or prevent data loss.

6. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Cubby’s authors, copyright holders, and contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from use of or inability to use the software, including loss of data, clipboard history, business, profits, or productivity.

7. Third-party software and services

Cubby includes third-party open-source components governed by their own licenses. Links to GitHub or other websites are provided for convenience; those services have their own terms and privacy practices.

8. Changes

These terms may be revised as Cubby approaches a broader release. Updated terms will be posted on this page with a new revision date.

9. Contact

Questions can be submitted through the Cubby issue tracker.
